Project Description: Located within the South Broad district, the site sits between the quickly developing South Side and the historic neighborhood of St. Elmo at the terminus of the Riverwalk city park. The South Broad district is historically an industrial area of town that is currently undergoing a transformation into a new and dense residential district. The primary design goals were to maximize the density of the site, create a protected urban green space, and repair the public space of the adjacent streets.
The two story street facing units were designed with large stoops and second floor balconies to activate the adjacent streets. The three story units were set back on the the site with 3 levels of porches and balconies facing the interior green spaces.
Each unit floor plan was designed to provide natural daylight, views to Lookout Mountain and a small home study. The form of the building was intended to both mark the site from a distance and give the project a recognizable residential scale and shape.
